Information and news on Process Analytical Technology or PAT for short..

Process Analytical Technology,  or PAT for short,  is a system for designing, analyzing, and controlling pharmaceutical manufacturing through timely quality measurements and performance attributes of materials and processes. This is done with the goal of ensuring final product quality.

Process Analytical Technology allows for and encourages continuous process manufacturing improvement of PAT.
PAT is also sometimes referred to as Process Analytic Technology.

Process Analytical Technology includes chemical, physical, microbiological, mathematical, and risk analysis conducted in an integrated manner. Physical properties are a core element of PAT.  Process Analytical Technology uses real time information to reduce process variation and manufacturing capability. PAT requires a solid understanding of the various process involved in the operation. Testing results from Process Analytical Technology may not be consistent, daily variation of data does occur.

Simply put Process Analytical Technology is real-time testing and adjustment based on the complete understanding of how the components and related processes  affect the final product.

A sample PAT rollout might include picking a process, understanding the details of the process and the available data and evaluating tools for reading and synchronizing the data.

Some of the goals of Process Analytical Technology are to improve the quality of batches, reduce the production cycle time and to facilitate continuous improvement.

We will soon be posting additional information on Process Analytical Technology and other Pharma related topics.
